Gerri Sayler

Gerri Sayler’s installation pieces are simple in construction and execution. Their charm and their effectiveness lies in the unity and rhythm of the repeated shapes, colors, and patterns.

Interstitial rains a serene cascade of hot glued tentacles down from the ceiling. The lines of glue are individually unique, but by being repeated again and again, they blend into a curtain of unified translucent strands. The vertical arrangement and neutral palette make for a soothing, static, calming piece.

Continuum operates on a similar level, in using the same material repeatedly on vertical hanging strands, but this piece has a slightly wilder and more frenetic aspect to it in the way that the fibers are tangled and their radius is wider. The bushy clouds suspended above the floor seem more like a forest than a downpour.

Cellular Medley is more dynamic, as the repeated circles of bamboo appear to be crawling or growing upward from the floor to the wall, or downward from the wall to the floor. The sinuous arrangement evokes the soft curves of a river or stream.

Each of Sayler’s pieces evoke elements of nature in their design and presentation. They have a landscape quality to them as they mimic things found in nature such as rain, forests, and rivers.
